The Immersion Method
The immersion method is a technique used in teaching foreign languages. After
a brief introduction to the language, semantics, some basic and essential vocabulary, the
student is placed in an environment where only the new language is spoken. In this environment,
the student is insulated against other distractions. The method removes the student’s ability to
fall back into the comfort zone of their native language.
Our CISSP® Immersion method uses a similar approach. Each day when class starts, we will ask
our students to turn off their cell phones, pagers, etc. to eliminate your distractions and so
that the class focus can be on the material. We have 5 days to learn 10 domains. For 5 days we
will eat, drink and breath the Common Body of Knowledge. Within a
domain, the student will be immersed in the time period and context of the test item writer.
From the beginning of (ISC)2, every proposed test question had to be accompanied by a
reference to its source. As much as possible, the course material has been drawn from these
same sources. Each domain is presented in its entirety and is concluded by a short quiz to
spot gaps. We have laid out the course material so that there is a natural progression from
module to module. At the conclusion of the course, you will "Talk the Talk", being fully
conversant in the language of the security professional, and fully prepared to take the CISSP® exam.
